How long does it take to train a miniature therapy horse?
Training a miniature horse for therapy works takes at least a year of intensive training, in most cases around 2 years. The level of training required is extremely high. As opposed to large therapy horses who usually work at one specific place, miniature therapy horses are transported to the different locations (rehabilitation centers, special education schools etc.) where the therapy takes place. This means that the horse will work in a very large array of different settings and situations and for this reason a lot of very specific training is required to teach the horse to handle these situations calmly. It is important to add, that even for a fully trained miniature therapy horses, training never ends. Typically all graduated therapy horses keep receiving regular training sessions to maintain their high level of training and to improve it even further.
