A worldwide unique program designed by vets for future vets.

Are you looking for an internship that will help you:

Gain insight and experience in real life veterinary work?

Develop professional competencies important to your success as a future vet?

Improve your curriculum to stand out from the crowd in this highly competitive field?

If any of the above questions apply to you, the MagicEquus® Immersion Program is YOUR internship!

Program characteristics and duration:

The MagicEquus® Immersion Program (MIP) is a full immersion, hands on veterinary internship, specifically created for pre-veterinary and veterinary students.

Our program is unlike any other:

90% of the program: 1&1 mentorships with experienced vets.

10% of the program: group seminars, demonstrations, case presentations and discussions. Maximum 4 students per group.

Rotation through 3 mayor veterinary fields (modules):

equine medicine (including among others field surgery, nutrition, preventive medicine, applied genetics and reproduction),

                       animal behavior and welfare,

cattle (beef and dairy) and small ruminant medicine.

9 full days of 1&1 mentorships with veterinary specialists divided in:

3 full days 1&1 mentorship with a vet specialized in equine practice,

3 full days 1&1 mentorship with a vet specialized in animal behavior and welfare,

3 full days 1&1 mentorship with a vet specialized in bovine and small ruminant practice.

Program duration: choose between our two options:

MIP 2 week intensive program: total contact time: min. 80 hours (8 hours daily) including 9 full days of 1&1 of mentorships.

MIP 4 week intensive program: total contact time: min. 160 contact hours (8 hours daily) including 18 full days of 1&1 mentorships.

Warning: mentorships are real field work, you accompany and assist your veterinary mentor throughout his/her entire work day. Depending on the case load of the day, total hours can often go well beyond 8 hours per day. If you want to experience real vet life and learn a lot, you are at the right place! If you are not ready to work hard to achieve your dreams, don’t choose MIP.

Species you will be working with: large horses, ponies and miniature horses, beef and dairy cattle, dogs and occasionally small ruminants (sheep and goats).

For pre-vet students: this internship helps you gain the experience, knowledge and personal growth to stand out from the crowd to be successful in the highly competitive process of getting accepted to veterinary school.

For vet-students: this internship can be used to fulfill your vet school´s requirements for practical training hours, while simultaneously acquiring important skills and insights towards your professional life.

All MIP instructors are fully licensed veterinarians with teaching experience. Teaching language is English. No Spanish language knowledge is required.

In addition to teaching the scientific and clinical aspect of veterinary work, the MagicEquus® Internship Program also places great emphasis on the importance of the veterinarian´s role in human society. As such, all MIP students actively participate in the work of the onsite MagicEquus® Miniature Therapy Horse Training Center. A worldwide unique center where miniature horses are bred, selected and trained for working in horse assisted therapies for disabled kids/adults, autistic children, senior citizen enrichment programs, horse facilitated learning programs etc. MIP students will assist in the vet care, selection, specialized daily training and work sessions of therapy horses, thereby making an essential contribution to the highly valuable work that these therapy horses will do for society.

MIP internships take place in Asturias, Northern Spain, the so called green paradise of Spain. The nearest airport is the International Asturias Airport (OVD).
